Athens-Mycenae-Nafplio

from 249€

Our one day tour starts from a fixed location of your choice. We strongly recommend you to start early in the morning because the sun is to strong during the day and we will have more time for the trip and sightseeing. Your driver will wait for you at least half an hour earlier and he will help you with your luggage. Moreover you can ask him to bring you coffee or snack which will wait you at the meeting point*.

We start our trip and on our way we will see the Canal of Corinth, which connects the Aegean and the Ionian Sea and separates Peloponnese with the mainland of Greece. At the canal you can enjoy the majestic view, take photos and those who dare can do bungee jumping from the bridge at the canal (bungee jumping is not available every day). After a short stop we take our way to Mycenae.

Also known as the Kingdom of Lions, Mycenae during antiquity was one of the biggest empires in southern Greece. They were a strong military force which occupied a territory of 32 ha and almost 30000 residents. The period between 1600 b.C and 1100 b.C is called Mycenaean, which referred to Mycenae.

The entrance of the Mycenaean acropolis, also known as the Lions Gate, still exists today and you will be impressed by the monument of two standing lions that protect the gate and the ancient city. Lions were considered a symbol of power and protectors of the Kingdom. During the archeological excavation of 1876 the archeologist Heinrich Schliemann excavated deep shafts all over the acropolis. He also found the ancient shaft graves with their royal skeletons and spectacular grave goods. These discoveries are exhibited in the National Museum of Athens and the Museum of Mycenae. Moreover there you can buy souvenirs and gifts, from local giftshops.

After our tour in Mycenae we head towards Nafplio, the first capital city of the Kingdom of Greece. Nafplio is a seaport town in the Peloponnese in Greece that has expanded up the hillsides near the north end of the Argolic Gulf. Our trip in Greek ancient history continues as we visit Bourtzi, a floating castle in the Argolic Golf and Palimidi a Venetian castle, build on top of the hill.

After that you can walk through the old fashioned, narrow streets of Nafplio and you can enjoy a traditional Greek meal at any of small Greek taverns of the city. We strongly recommend you to try ice cream produced in Nafplio by local gelateria.

Then you can enjoy a short walk in the city and in the evening, after a 10 hour trip we will gather at the meeting point and start our trip back to Athens**.
